Spinning reels: front drag or rear drag?
I’m shopping for spinning reels, specifically the Shimano Symetre series which come in both front drag and rear drag models. I know the main advantage of the rear drag models is that you can quickly and easily adjust the drag during a fight but, what are the disadvantages? Front drag reels definitely seem more popular so there must be more to this equation that I’m seeing. So, to boil it down: what are all the advantages/disadvantages of front drag vs. rear drag spinning reels? Thanks.
The front drag reels have larger drag washer surfaces which provide more control over fighting fish. The only disadvantage is the front drag reels are very slightly more difficult to disassemble/re-assemble for cleaning/service.
